Environment Canada calling for ‘significant rainfall’

WEST CARLETON – Anywhere from 20 to 40 millimetres of rain is expected tonight (May 9) – bad news for residents already battling record high water.

Environment Canada released a special weather statement late last night calling for rain.

“Significant rainfall expected Thursday night and Friday,” Envirnonment Canada stated in a release. “A strong low pressure system will track over Northeastern Ontario on Thursday. Rain ahead of this system will begin Thursday afternoon before tapering to scattered showers Friday night.”

Total rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are possible with the heaviest rain falling Thursday night. The ground, already near saturation, has a lessened ability to absorb further rainfall. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
