El-Chantiry says city ‘actively working’ on garbage pick-up issue
WEST CARLETON – Coun. Eli El-Chantiry says city staff are ‘actively working’ with the contractor to meet the city’s garbage pick-up standards.
On July 12, West Carleton Online reported on the issue of delayed garbage pick-up in West Carleton due to a fire that destroyed eight garbage trucks. Many Ward 5 residents wer complaining their garbage was not picked up on the scheduled day forcing residents to deal with unsightly messes at the end of their driveway. Often garabge bats were ransacked by area critters.
“Over the past couple of weeks, since the Waste Management facility on Westbrook Road experienced a small fire which affected some of the fleet of collection vehicles, there have been some ongoing issues with the pick-up schedule of garbage from some homes in Ward 5,” Coun. El-Chantiry released in a statement today (July 22). “The city is well aware of the current pick-up issues and staff are actively working with the contractor to meet our service standards.”
The city will continue to be following the Contract Administration policy to continue to keep Waste Management accountable. In the meantime, the contractor is bringing in additional trucks, mechanics, drivers, and logistics people to help meet the current demand.
“Please call 3-1-1 immediately if you’re garbage is not collected on time and an on schedule,” El-Chantiry said. “Make sure to note the SR Reference Number given to you when you call. If you do not get timely action from 3-1-1, you can call our office. We will want the SR number given to you by 3-1-1, so that we can follow up immediately.”
