Eight garbage trucks burn at Carp facility Saturday
CARP ROAD CORRIDOR – Approximately eight garbage trucks were damaged in a Saturday (June 15) evening fire causing approximately $3 million damage.
Firefighters from Station 46 in Stittsville responded to the blaze following a 911 call received at 5:39 p.m. Eyewitnesses reported multiple garbage trucks on fire in the yard of Wast Management Services.
“The first rig was on scene at 5:47 p.m.” Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) public information officer Danielle Cardinal released in a statement. “There were no structures involved but approximately eight vehicles were involved causing approximately $3 million in dollar loss in vehicles.”
The Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire.
“The fire was declared under control at 6:07 p.m.” Cardinal said. “A loss stopped was declared at 6:48 p.m. There are no reported injuries at this time. An Ottawa Fire Investigator has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause.”
