Early evening South March fire damages home
SOUTH MARCH – With firefighters just around the corner, it looks like a home will be saved from an early evening fire last night (Oct. 3).
A home at 4 Campbell Reid Court, near the intersection of Dunrobin and March roads, was the scene of a fire yesterday around 4:30 p.m.
Less than a kilometre away on Cameron Harvey Drive is Ottawa Fire Station 45, the fire hall that responded to the blaze.
“At 4:45 p.m., Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) received multiple 911 calls reporting smoke and flames visible in the area of March Road and Dunrobin Road,” OFS public information officer Jen McNeely released in a statement yesterday evening. “While responding from the station, a working fire was declared and confirmed to be at the above address, a house. The fire was declared under control at 5:44 p.m. A loss stopped was declared at 7:32 p.m. There are no reported injuries at this time. An OFS investigator is currently on scene to determine the cause. The Canadian Red Cross will be assisting those affected by this incident.”
“Call 911 as soon as it is safe to do so,” McNeely said. “Remember, you are our eyes and ears to the emergency. Our Dispatch staff will ask questions to help best locate the incident and assess the conditions surrounding the emergency. We encourage you to remain calm, answer the Dispatcher’s questions and to stay on the line until advised to hang up. Be safe when Ottawa Fire Services crews are operating in your area. Best practice is to remain off the roads and at a safe distance from the fire scene or in your home.”
