Drew James golf tourney registration now open

CARP – Registration is now open for the Drew James Memorial Golf Tournament on Aug. 29 at Irish Hills Golf Club.

“A portion of funds raised will go to the Royal Ottawa Hospital for Men’s Mental Health,” West Carleton Minor Hockey Association (WCMHA) staff released in a statement. “Thank you for participating in our tournament, our association appreciates all of our hockey families and their support.”

Sponsorship packages are available by emailing events@wcmha.ca and silent auction items and in-kind donations are also being accepted.

Coach Drew James was a volunteer with the organization since 2006.

“Coaching, evaluating and always there to help his wife Jennifer with all the WCMHA activities through the years, Drew loved hockey and had a passion for teaching which reflected in his coaching for WCMHA,” organizers said. “In Drew’s memory a portion of the funds raised will be going to the Royal Ottawa Hospital to assist with programming for Men’s Mental Health.”

“This tournament will be played in a nine and dine format,” the WCMHA said. “There will also be a silent auction and dance to finish off the evening.”

The cost per player is $110 and includes a roast beef buffet dinner and golf with cart.

Volunteers are still needed.

“If you don’t have the knack for golf but want to be a part of our day, please consider volunteering,” the WCMHA said. “This event runs on volunteers. Have a student that needs community/volunteer hours? Have a Grandma or Grandpa that likes to help out? Contact to register.”
