Domestic incidents continue to rise in Renfrew County

RENFREW COUNTY – Domestic incidents continue to rise in Renfrew County matching the tension being created due to the pressure of living through a pandemic.

 The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 224 calls for service between April 27 and May 3.

Arnprior and Renfrew officers investigated 15 domestic disputes during the past week.

“One accused has been charged with assault and breach of recognizance,” OPP media relations/community safety officer Tina Hunt released in a statement today (May 6). “If you or someone you know is living in or involved in an abusive relationship help is available. Contact Bernadette McCann House 24/7 for support, advice or the safety of a shelter at 1-800-267-4930. The Women’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County is also available 24/7 for information and support at 1-800-663-3060. You could also attend the emergency department of any hospital in Renfrew County and ask to speak to a member of the Assault Response Team. Victim Services of Renfrew County is also available to provide emotional and practical assistance to people who have experienced domestic violence. They can be reached at 613-649-2852 or toll free at 1-877-568-5730. In emergencies call 911.”

Drug offenses

“On April 30, officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a call at a residence in the Town of Renfrew,” Hunt said. “As a result of the investigation Isaac Peer, 18-years-old of Renfrew, has been charged with careless storage of a firearm, possession of a schedule one substance believed to be cocaine and possession of a schedule one substance believed to be an opioid.”

Further Liam Coyne, 20-years-old of Renfrew has also been charged with possession of a schedule one substance believed to be cocaine, possession of a schedule one substance believed to be an opioid, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, fail to comply with probation order and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunitions. 

Both accused parties were released on an undertaking to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on June 17.

Possession of stolen property

On May 3, officers with the Renfrew OPP were conducting traffic enforcement in the Town of Renfrew. 

The officer observed unauthorized vehicle plates and conducted a traffic stop. As a result of an investigation Jordan Greer, 22-years-old of Otter Lake, QC has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime. The accused was released on an undertaking to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Renfrew on June 17, 2020. 

Weapons call

On May 3, officers with the Renfrew OPP Detachment responded to a weapons call on Cobus Road in the Township of Horton. As a result of the investigation Brendan Thompson, 22-years-old of Horton Township has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of pointing a firearm, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm and two counts of criminal harassment.
