The police are currently investigating two cases of fraud.

“Just because an email looks legitimate and appears to come from someone you know, doesn’t always mean it is legitimate,” Lobinowich said. “Read your emails carefully, check the sender’s email address and verify it is correct; sometimes there is a slight change from what it should be. Think about what is being asked or requested by the sender; is it a normal request from that person or a normal work-related theme? Example: you receive an email from a co-worker on your work email requesting you purchase $100 in GOOGLE Play gift cards. Is this normal? Would this personal normally make this kind of request of you? Scammers know people are working from home due to the pandemic so are capitalizing on this fact to create new scams. Don’t be a victim; be sceptical and if in doubt, phone the person to verify it truly was them who sent the email.”
