Domestic incidents big part of Lanark County OPP weekly calls

LANARK COUNTY – Eleven of the Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police’s (OPP) 326 calls for service over the last week involved domestic incidents.

Between Monday, June 1 and Monday, June 8, officers from the Lanark County Detachment of the OPP responded to 328 calls for service. 

The OPP responded to 11 domestic incidents over the week.

 “Lanark County OPP were called to a domestic incident in Lanark Highlands Township on June 1 just before 12:30 p.m.,” Const. Lori Lobinowich released in a statement today (June 9). “A 20-year-old female was arrested and charged with domestic assault in relation to her partner. The accused was released from custody on an undertaking with a scheduled court date of Aug. 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. The victim did not sustain any injuries.”

Lanark County OPP were called regarding a stalking incident in the Town of Perth on June 4, just after 4:30 p.m. 

“Police patrolled and located the person in question and arrested them for harassment,” Lobinowich said. “The accused, a 41-year-old resident of South Crosby Township, Ontario was held in custody pending a bail hearing the following day and was further charged with failure to comply with undertaking.”

Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in Lanark Highlands Township on June 6, at 8:30 p.m. regarding a domestic incident between spouses where both sustained minor injuries. 

“Police attended the home and conducted their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of a 38-year-old resident with two counts of domestic assault,” Lobinowich said. “The accused was released from custody on an undertaking with a scheduled court date of Aug. 24, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.”

A 65-year-old resident of Lanark Highlands Township was charged by Lanark County OPP on June 4, regarding historic incidents between 2011-2020 involving the accused’s spouse. Charges include spousal assault, sexual assault and three counts of uttering threats. The male was held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 5.

 The OPP responded to nine thefts and four incidents of fraud over the week.

Lanark County OPP were advised of a toolbox containing tools valued at approximately $500 was stolen sometime over the weekend between May 30 to June 1, from a business located on McVeigh Road in Tay Valley Township.

 On June 3, 2020, Lanark County OPP were advised of the theft of power and hand tools and an ice climbing axe from an unlocked shed at a residential property on Herriott Street in the Town of Perth on May 28. Value of the stolen property is estimated around $600.

 Lanark County OPP were called on June 5, regarding unauthorized purchases on several different credit cards by a youth residing in the caller’s home. A 15-year-old male was arrested for Theft Under $5,000 in relation to the incidents. Charges will be diverted in this matter.

A 17-year-old resident of Tay Valley Township was charged on June 7, with take motor vehicle without consent, failing to remain and failing to report accident after a collision in the early morning hours. Minor injuries were sustained by the charged driver.

The OPP responded to 10 calls related to mischief.

“A 21-year-old resident of Ottawa has been charged with three counts of domestic mischief after an incident on Norton Street in Mississippi Mills Township on June 6, around 10 p.m.,” Lobinowich said. “No one was injured in this incident.”

The OPP responded to 20 motor vehicle collisions over the week and charged one suspected impaired driver.

On June 6, 2020, just after 10 p.m., officers from the Carleton Place OPP were called to Lake Avenue East in the Town of Carleton Place regarding a collision. 

“Police attended, spoke to witnesses and conducted their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of Calvin Chartier, age 21 of Mississippi Mills Township, with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – over 80,” Lobinowich said. “The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days, and the vehicle impounded for seven days. Release was in the form of an appearance notice for a scheduled court date of Aug. 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.”

Ten of the OPP’s calls related to mental health issues.

 Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in Tay Valley Township on June 3, regarding a threats call. Officers attended and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest and charge of Ronald Spencley, age 31 of Tay Valley Township, with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage of a firearm. The accused was further charged with driving while under suspension. The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing on June 4, regarding the criminal matters.
