Derry Road dumper caught in Lanark OPP weekly round-up
LANARK COUNTY – It was a busy end of May for Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) who responded to 332 calls for service over the last seven days.
The OPP responded to 13 thefts over the week including four gas ‘drive-offs.’
A 30-inch Napoleon fireplace valued at $1,000 was reported stolen on May 28 from a construction site on Stewart Lee Street in the Town of Almonte.
The Carleton Place OPP were called to a business on Ottawa Street in Mississippi Mills Township on May 28 regarding the theft of $3,820 worth of fragrances on May 26. Investigation reveals incidents to be occurring at other stores throughout the province.
Tools valued at $1,000 were reported stolen sometime between May 21 and 29 from a vehicle parked on Harvey Street in the Town of Perth.

Lanark OPP constables responded to eight calls related to domestic incidents.
Officers from the Carleton Place OPP responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Almonte on May 25 just before 11:30 p.m.
“Upon arrival and speaking with the victim who sustained minor injuries, officers conducted their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of a 51-year-old resident of the home, with domestic assault and uttering death threats,” media relations officer Const. Lori Lobinowich said. “The accused was released from custody on an undertaking with a scheduled court date. The following evening, however, officers re-attended the home to update the victim and observed the accused exiting the residence so was arrested for breaching his conditions of release the day prior and held in custody pending a bail hearing the following morning.”
The OPP responded to four suspected cases of impaired driving and five liquor license act charges.
Carleton Place OPP were called on May 29, just before 7:30 p.m. regarding a traffic complaint in the Town of Almonte. Officers patrolled and located the vehicle in question and conducted a vehicle stop. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest and charge of Justin Gallant, age 22 of Ottawa, for operation while impaired – over 80. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. Release was in the form of an appearance notice with a scheduled court date of July 27 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
On May 29 just after 11 p.m. A Carleton Place OPP officer came upon a vehicle in the ditch along County Road 29 in Mississippi Mills Township with no one around the scene. Officers conducted their investigation and located the driver, Dylan Depater, age 25 of Carleton Place, who was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – over 80. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. Release was in the form of an appearance notice with a scheduled court date of Aug. 10, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. Minor injuries were sustained due to the collision.
Several traffic complaints on May 30, just before 3 p.m. in the Town of Almonte regarding a possible impaired driver were called in to the Carleton Place OPP. Officers patrolled and located the vehicle and conducted their investigation which resulted in the arrest and charge of Andrew Howes, age 36 of Mississippi Mills Township, for operation while impaired and operation while impaired – over 80. The accused’s driver’s licence was suspended automatically for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for seven days. Release was in the form of an Appearance Notice with a scheduled court date of Aug. 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
While on general patrol along Wolf Grove Road in Mississippi Mills Township on May 30, just after 2:30 a.m., a constable from the Lanark County OPP Detachment observed a vehicle at the Tatlock Road intersection which was not travelling in a regular manner. A traffic stop was conducted and the subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest and charge of William Foran-Moore, age 21 of Ottawa, with operation while impaired – over 80. The accused who has never been licenced was further charged under the Highway Traffic Act for drive motor vehicle no licence. Release on the impaired charge was by way of an appearance notice for a scheduled court date of Aug. 10, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
A 27-year-old resident of Mississippi Mills Township was charged on May 21, just before 4:30 p.m. on Waba Road in Mississippi Mills Township for driving with open liquor.
A 56-year-old resident of Russell Township was charged with having liquor in open container in other than licenced premises after a routine vessel check on Pike Lake on May 24.
A group of 12 youths between the ages of 16 and 19 were spoken to and warned regarding underage drinking near the Carleton Place Canoe Club in the Town of Carleton Place after a concerned citizen called police on May 27 at 8 p.m.
After falling onto Wilson Street West in the Town of Perth on May 29, just after 6 p.m., a 65-year-old resident of the Town of Perth was arrested for public intoxication. No charges were laid and the male was released from custody once sober.
A vessel stop on Mississippi Lake in Beckwith Township on May 28, just before 4:30 p.m. resulted in the charge of conveying a boat with open liquor for a 28-year-old resident of Carleton Place.
The OPP responded to 18 motor vehicle collisions over the week.
The OPP investigated three mischief charges.
Lanark County OPP were called to a residence in Lanark Highlands Township on May 30, just after midnight regarding an assault and mischief to a vehicle. Officers attended and conducted their investigation which included locating the accused who had left the area. Nathan Colbert, age 26 of McNab-Braeside Township, was charged with assault and mischief under $5,000 and released on an undertaking with a scheduled court date of Aug. 10, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth. The victim sustained minor injuries from the assault.
A 47-year-old resident of Carleton Place, was charged on May 31 with uttering death threats to a co-worker for an incident which took place on May 22 at the accused’s place of work. The accused was issued an appearance notice for a scheduled court date of Aug. 10, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.
A 57-year-old resident of Ottawa was charged on May 27, under Section 86 of the Environmental Protection Act for abandoning material that is likely to become litter after a report to the Lanark County OPP on May 19, regarding a person dumping garbage off Derry Side Road in Beckwith Township on May 16.
