CORKERY – The Corkery Community Association’s (CCA) Catherin Ann is gauging the interest in a virtual Pilates class for the Corkery community and beyond.
The program would be run similar to the CCA’s long-running yoga program.
“We have an opportunity to start classes for our community,” the CCA’s Catherine Ann released in a statement yesterday (July 21). “Via Zoom in the comfort of your own space for starters then in a group setting as permitted.
Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. Pilates is named for its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920s.
“We have been running these for yoga since the spring and it’s worked out great,” Ann said. “So nice to see the same faces each week and foster a sense of community despite the pandemic.”
The class needs a commitment from at least five individuals in order to form a class. Class is an hour long. The instructor is available Tuesday morning and/or Wednesday early evening, meaning a start at 6 p.m. at the latest.
“Please comment if you are interested and what days and times would suit you and we’ll run a trial for the month of August going with the time with the majority of votes,” Ann said. “If you’re interested in going to two weekly classes also indicate that.”
It will be $10 per class paid in advance if there are five registrants. The cost is Less the more participants.
“You get some individual attention for that,” Ann said. “The instructor makes time for consultation outside of class to offer alternatives if you have mobility concerns and also checks in with us during the class.”
Class start time could be Tuesday 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m. or 10 a.m. and/or Wednesday start time of 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m. or 6 p.m.
Currently organizers are gauging interest on the Corkery Community Association’s Facebook page. Please comment in the post if you are interested and what times you prefer and you can find the post here.
