Corkery Canada Day looking for volunteers
CORKERY – It’s going to be a family-friendly Canada Day party and the Corkery Community Association (CCA) is looking for a few volunteers to help pull it off.
“Bigger and better things are planned for this year and we need volunteers,” the CCA released in a statement June 16. “Help out for an hour or two, meet your neighbours and enjoy all the fun. Sign up here to get involved.”
This year’s Canada Day, hosted at the Corkery Community Centre, kicks off at 4:30 p.m. with an as yet unnamed superhero ready to entertain the young ones with a super trick or two. Entertainment continues all evening with Ms. Twisty, Cratur, Last Call, the Steve Stacey Band and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. (dependent on light).
Make the party last all week (heck, all July) as Thursday, July 4 kicks off the 24th Concerts in the Parks series hosted at Fitzroy Provincial Park and brought to you by Waste Management and Coun. Eli El-Chantiry.
Each Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. free entertainment by Eddy and the Stingrays (July 4), the Heartbeats (July 11), Big Newton (July 18) and Ambush (July 25) will be provided on the Waste Management stage.
There will be a cash-only barbecue on hand as well. Each week a different youth group will host the barbecue and keep the proceeds to support their programming. The concert series is a fundraiser for the Corkery Community Centre and will be used to support the $1.5 million renovation project that kicks off this year.
