Christmas tragedy on Hwy. 417 near Carp exit

KANATA – A motorist is a Christmas day victim of a tragic motor collision this morning (Christmas) after her vehicle was found between the lanes of Hwy. 417, near Carp exit.

The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the assistance of an OPP Collision Reconstructionist and Technical Collision Investigator is investigating a fatal, single motor vehicle collision.

“On Dec.  25, shortly after 9 a.m., police, along with Ottawa Paramedics and Fire Services responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch in the centre median of Highway 417 between the exits near Carp and Palladium Drive,” OPP community safety coordinator acting Sgt. Annie Collins released in a statement today (Christmas). “A female driver, 47-years-old, was the lone occupant and was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) was needed to extricate the driver.

“Ottawa fire received a call for a single vehicle accident on the highway,” OFS public information officer Carson Tharris released in a statement today,. “Ottawa Fire received reports of a person trapped in the vehicle that were confirmed when Ottawa fire crews arrived on location.”

Firefighters from District 4 in Stittsville, OFS Station 46, were first on scene.

“Ottawa fire started extrication at 9:20 a.m. and completed the extrication at 9:32 a.m.,” Tharris said. 

The identification of the driver will not be released at this time.
