Carp Riverwalk signs go missing
CARP – Carp’s brand-new four-season trail was the target of vandalism earlier this week.
The Carp Riverwalk, located between the Carp Mess Hall and the Carp River off Craig Side Road, is a brand new trail launched thanks to the hard work of volunteers led by the Friends of the Carp River.
The trail officially opened last November and is open to the public for walking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing (on a groomed trail) and even dog walking (dogs must be on a leash).
Unfortunately, sometime last week a vandal or vandals tore down temporary signage installed and paid for out of pocket, by trail volunteers.
Specific signs at both entrances to the trail have gone missing. The signs were put in place to provide trail users with valuable information about the trail, its use and and specific City of Ottawa regulations such as the city’s leash bylaw.
The signs were placeholder signs as the Huntley Community Centre raised funds to install permanent metal signs. The temporary signs were paid for and placed on the trail by volunteers which allowed the trail to open earlier without having to wait for the permanent signs to be installed.
