Carleton Place to approve 2019 budget March 12

CARLETON PLACE – After reviewing four different drafts and spending a full day hearing presentations from department managers, Carleton Place council will be voting to approve the 2019 budget on March 12.

The budget proposes a tax increase of 2.97 per cent.

“I believe council has been prudent in setting its budget for 2019,” says Trisa McConkey, treasurer for the Town of Carleton Place. “This budget balances affordability with investment in the community.”

“The 2019 budget includes significant infrastructure and planning work for thetTown while being fiscally responsible to the taxpayer.  The investment in our infrastructure will not only ensure but enhance the quality of life for our residents into the future” Mayor Doug Black said.

Major capital projects include the Central Bridge, a pavilion in Carleton Junction Park for concerts and events, numerous construction projects such as High Street from Moffit Street to Joseph Street, Antrim Street from Franktown Road to Park Avenue, Queen Street from Nelson Street to Mary Street, water and sewer projects including the Gillies Bridge Watermain, upgrading the pumping station on Bridge Street and new SCADA monitoring equipment for the Town’s Waste Water Treatment Plan, and a new street sweeper.

There are some new and exciting things planned for 2019 including celebrations relating to the 200th Anniversary, a splash pad at Carambeck Community Centre, parks in both Miller’s Crossing and Carleton Landing North subdivisions, a pump track at Carleton Junction, and the renovation of existing and construction of new arena dressing rooms.

“This is my first budget process since assuming my new role as Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Carleton Place.  I am proud of the work of both council and managers to develop the budget” CAO Diane Smithson said. “I would also like to commend Trisa McConkey for her work in consolidating and guiding gouncil through this year’s budget process.”
