Carleton Place celebrates 200 years this weekend

CARLETON PLACE – It’s going to take all weekend long for Carleton Place to celebrate its bicentential this August long weekend.

“Join us this weekend for some of the exciting events taking place to celebrate the town’s 200th anniversary,” staff released in a statement today (Aug. 2).

Events kick-off this evening with a Classic Car Parade and Street Dance .
The Parade will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Carambeck Community Centre, traveling down Bridge Street, turning east on Lake Avenue and ending at Market Square. The street dance will start at 7:15 p.m. with live entertainment from Eddy and the Stingrays.

On Saturday it’s the Aug. 3 Bridge Street Summerfest.
“It’s summer…let’s celebrate,” staff said. “Join us for the Annual Bridge Street Summerfest in Downtown Carleton Place. 9 a.m – 3 p.m. As always, we will have vendors, a kids’ area, strolling interactive entertainment, food vendors and sun.”

On Sunday (Aug. 4) it’s time to picnic at the 200th Picnic in the Park.

“Let’s picnic like it’s 1919,” staff said. “Join the Carleton Place 200th Committee for a free old-fashioned family picnic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Meet us at Riverside Park for a great afternoon of old-time games, historical displays, live music from The History Buffs, and a puppet show by Rock the Arts! There will be a dress up photo booth to try, and maybe you’ll meet some folks from Carleton Place’s past. Bring a blanket, pack your own picnic lunch or take advantage of the free picnic foods offered at the People First tent.”
