Buckham’s Bay kids’ ice fishing derby Feb. 16

BUCKHAM’S BAY – The premier West Carleton kids’ ice fishing derby is back for another year.

Family Day Weekend is fast becoming known for the Constance Bay Family Day Kids Ice Fishing Derby. This year will be it’s 13th year, held on Buckham’s Bay Sunday, Feb. 16, which is also the free Family Day fishing weekend (no licence required).

Last year, despite some frosty temperatures, nearly 100 kids came out to take part in the event organized by Bayview Bait and Tackle’s Shadine and Kevin Robinson. It’s a great opportunity to give the popular pastime a try, drop a line and enjoy winter.

It’s $2 to register the day of and that includes everything someone might need to enjoy an afternoon of ice fishing as well as a few treats, prizes, a roaring fire and a hot dog lunch.

The event runs from 9 to 3 p.m. on Buckham’s Bay across from the boat launch.  People are asked to register before noon.

““That was a big hit for the kids to go out and have that experience,” Coun. Eli El-Chantiry told West Carleton Online last year. “They had a great turnout.”
