Beer in the bunker
CARP – Enjoy the thrill of drinking your favourite local brew in a windowless box deep below the earth’s surface.
The Diefenbunker Cold War Museum is hosting a Bunker Beer Tasting event Saturday, Aug. 17 and everyone’s invited.
“There aren’t many people in Canada, or the world we bet, that can say they’ve ever been to a beer tasting in an underground bunker,” Diefenbunker staff released in a statement. “But you can, when you come to our unconventional underground beer tasting and guided tour. This year we’re excited to bring you unique and innovative brews from three different local breweries. This is definitely the coolest place in Ottawa to enjoy beer.”
The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. with doors opening at 6:15 p.m.
The event includes six, five-ounce tastings; a cash bar before and after the tastings and tour; a designated tour guide; puzzles, games and brain teasers to attempt.
Tickets are $60 per person with designated drivers only having to pay $30. Members receive a 10 per cent discount (please call the museum to have the discount applied – 613-839-0007).
“The bunker is 100,000 square feet so please consider wearing comfortable footwear – we do a lot of walking on the guided tour,” staff said. “Please make arrangements for a safe drive, taxi or ride sharing service to and from the museum.”
Tickets can be purchased at the museum or online here.
