Barricaded Almonte man surrenders peacefully

ALMONTE – A family dispute that led to an Almonte man barricading himself in his home has ended peacefully this afternoon (July 23).

“On July 23, officers from the Carleton Place and Lanark County Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a family dispute at a residence in the Town of Almonte just before 10:30 a.m.,” media relations officer Lori Lobinowich released in a statement today.

Information was an adult male attended a residence causing extensive damage then returned to his own home refusing to come out.

“Officers were assisted by members of the OPP Crisis Negotiation Team, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and the incident came to a peaceful conclusion before 3 p.m. where the male surrendered to police without incident,” Lobinowich said.

 The incident is still under investigation at this time.
