Bantam Warriors take gold in Bradford
BRADFORD – Despite the cold, the bone-chilling wind and the snow, the West Carleton bantam Warriors had a lovely time in Bradford, ON.
Mostly because they are bringing home the gold.
The Bantam 3 Warriors spent the weekend in the just south of Lake Simcoe competing in the Bradford Blue Gold Tournament from Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 and won gold following five grueling games.
The team started off the tournament with a 4-2 loss but thrashed its opponents 10-1 and 6-0 to end the round robin portion of the tournament 2-1.
That was good enough for third place and a spot in the elimination round. It was a tough start to the second round of the tournament for the Warriors too.
“Down 2-0 heading into the third, the never say die Warriors, scored three goals in dramatic fashion to secure a spot in the final,” coach Carlos Almeida told West Carleton Online.
The Warriors would face the Pet Valu Ice Dogs in the tournament championship – the same team that beat the Warriors in the first game of the tournament.
“With suffocating team defense and potent offense the Warriors led 2-0 in the second,” Almeida said. “After losing one of their own into the boards, the Warriors regrouped and hung on to secure a 2-1 win and bring home the championship.”
