Arnprior’s Kirby found guilty of assault, sexual assault
ARNPRIOR – Well-known sports volunteer and referee Bill Kirby was found guilty on five of six counts of assault and sexual assault occurring between 20 and 40 years ago.
The trial of the 74-year-old Arnprior resident was held the last week of October, and the verdict was issued on Monday, Nov. 30.
Kirby was found not guilty on one additional count of assault as the judge decided details surrounding this incident were vague and left reasonable doubt.
Kirby is well known in Arnprior for his many years as a hockey referee and baseball umpire, and member of the Arnprior Civitan and Optimist clubs, along with the community policing board.
