Arnprior Rotary donates $10,000 to tornado relief

ARNPRIOR – Despite having their own flooded community, the Rotary Club of Arnprior wanted to help their eastern neighbours during tornado recovery.

The club donated $10,000 to West Carleton Disaster Relief to be used in part to help the Dunrobin Community Centre replace all the softball equipment that was swept away by last fall’s tornado.

“On Monday, June 17, Lori McGrath of the West Carleton Disaster Relief group was presented with $10,000 from the Rotary Club of Arnprior,” Rotary member Jane Peters told West Carleton Online. “$3,500 went to baseball equipment to replace that lost in the tornado, including two t-ball set, two base sets, 25 bats, four shin pads, 48 ball and 25 helmets.”

In addition, multiple gift cards for gas from Shell and McEwan, groceries from Sobeys, and home products from Canadian Tire, Home Hardware and Rona were presented.

“Funds came from Arnprior and other Rotary Clubs from throughout Rotary District 7040, which includes northern New York, Western Quebec, Eastern Ontario and Iqualuit,” Peters said.
