1,000 volunteers fill 140,000 sandbags over Easter weekend
CONSTANCE BAY – With the regular work week schedule resuming on Tuesday, a modified schedule is available for those residents wanting to help with flood preparation efforts.
Residents can volunteer from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday to Friday. The number one priority remains to be filling sandbags and supporting homeowners along the Ottawa River in danger of flooding.
The volunteer check-in for West Carleton from Tuesday, April 23 to Friday, April 26 is located at the NorthWind Wireless Fibe Centre at 262 Len Purcell Dr. from 3 to 7 p.m.
Volunteers should prepare accordingly and be dressed appropriately.
Meals will be provided to all volunteers. However, if someone has a food allergy or special dietary requirement, it is recommended that they bring their own food or snacks.
The city would like to thank volunteers who have helped residents and property owners at risk of flooding. More than 1,000 volunteers have generously donated their time over the long weekend. With their efforts, over 140,000 sandbags are or have been made available to residents.
