Abe Erb Brewing Reopens in Ontario’s Waterloo Region

WATERLOO, ON – Seven months after the shutdown of the Abe Erb Brewing brewpub and restaurant chain in Ontario’s Waterloo Region, a new ownership group has revived the brand and reopened two locations, with a third to follow soon.

The Waterloo and Ayr locations both relaunched late last week, and are offering take out service including full food menus and a beer line-up that features core brands 1857 Lagered Ale (4.8% abv), Buggywhip IPA (6.3% abv), Transatlantic Pale Ale (6% abv), and Abe Light Lager (4.5% abv), plus guest beers from other area breweries.

Named after Waterloo founder Abraham Erb, the first Abe Erb brewpub opened in Waterloo in 2014, and was followed by locations in Kitchener in 2017Ayr in early 2019, and Guelph in late 2019. All of them closed temporarily at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, and only the Kitchener and Ayr locations were back in operation at the time of the full business closure last October.

While the Guelph location was taken over by Fixed Gear Brewing to open its Fixed Gear Canteen restaurant and taproom, the Kitchener spot will be reopening soon as a third Abe Erb location.
