LONDON, ON – Forked River Brewing has announced the release of a new limited edition ale inspired by the land and sky of a place the other side of the world.
Southern Cross New Zealand IPA (5.4% abv):
From the Land of the Long White Cloud / Middle Earth / Kiwi country, we present you with Southern Cross- our first New Zealand IPA with (shocker) another astronomical connection! Made with Southern Cross hops fresh from NZ, this release can be likened to a West Coast style session IPA, but with a deeper malt backbone and tropical fruit character. Do you like our Dysania? Then you’re going to love Southern Cross.
The name of the beer – and that of the hops used in it – has the following backstory:
The Southern Cross is a characteristic constellation of the southern hemisphere. It features prominently on the New Zealand flag and is a must for watchers of the night sky when they’re down south. Captured by Londoner Dave McCarter of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in the photo on our label, you can see the four points that make up the Southern Cross.
Southern Cross New Zealand IPA is available now at the Forked River retail store and online shop.

]]>YELLOWKNIFE, NT – Yellowknife music festival Folk On The Rocks has announced that hometown brewery NWT Brewing Company will be the official beer supplier for its upcoming 2021 edition, a role that was previously held by Calgary’s Big Rock Brewing.
NWT Brewing marketing and communications manager Mel Leonard tells Cabin Radio that the brewery will be shifting part of its production to cans in order to be able to serve at the festival, and while the brands that will be available are yet to be announced, he says “an old favourite that hasn’t been around for a couple of years” will reappear for the event.
While bottled beer will still be available at the brewery and other locations, the addition of cans as an option should also allow the brewery to increase distribution to more liquor stores throughout the Northwest Territories.
Folk On The Rocks will take place on Friday July 16th to Sunday July 18th in Yellowknife. More details on the beers that will be available at the festival, as well as the artwork for the new cans, will be revealed later this week.

CAMBRIDGE, ON – Reverence Barrel Works has announced the release of a new beer that was created following the strictly defined Méthode Traditionnelle standards for spontaneously fermented ales.
Aspire (5% abv):
Aspire is the first of its kind in Ontario and as far as we know, in all of Canada. It is a blend of three Méthode Traditionnelle barrels, maturing at a rather speedy pace. After a year of aging, the barrels were blended and left to rest together in the tank for three months. Once they had undergone a small introduction, having some time to get to know each other, we bottle conditioned them with Ontario wildflower honey for eight months.
The final beer is a beautiful bouquet of apricot, preserved lemon, hay, moderate funk, balanced acidity and honey crisp apples. The carbonation is low as the beer still had a bit of unfermented sugar left in it. Over time this carbonation may grow to sparkle like champagne or it may be completely stable where it is now. That’s just part of the magic of Méthode Traditionnelle brewing and blending.
Aspire and the process behind it is more fully described in a blog post on the brewery’s website, and is available now at the Reverence retail store and online shop.

]]>KITCHENER, ON – Short Finger Brewing has announced this year’s edition of a unique beer created in collaboration with Sawdust City Brewing.
Wax Poetic Sour Solera Project (5.1% abv) was intended to be a special release for Sawdust City’s Funkfest sour beer festival, but as with last year’s vintage, the cancellation of the event due to COVID-19 means that it’s being sold straight from the brewery instead.
Short Finger explains the project as follows:
We call our solera a forever project. A solera is a term that describes the art of barrel aging liquid over an indefinite length of time. During this time you regularly take liquid out of the barrel but then immediately top that barrel back up with fresh wort (in our case) so that it does not empty and the new liquid gets inoculated by the old carrying on the flavour and culture.
The 2021 edition has the following notes:
This year’s blend from the barrels is a mix of SFBC’s house culture and Sawdust City’s Limberlost culture. It brings a soft acidity that plays with Lemon Meringue pie notes and hints of lemon zest and pith on the back end.
Wax Poetic 2021 is available now at the Short Finger retail store and online shop.

Tart cherries are known as the antioxidant superfruit and they provide a subtle background to the beer. The cherry flavor is noticeable as an aftertaste but not meant to be overwhelming.

Monogamy: Columbus VQH (6.4% abv):
Columbus is a classic hop we’ve used in Monogamy IPA before, but this batch is particularly noteworthy because the hops were sourced locally, from VQH Farms in Eden, ON. And what’s great about this series, is that it allows us to hone in and feature one hop variety (or hop farm in this case). The tasting notes on this deliciously hazy IPA are: orange peel, white grape, pine needles, and peppercorn.

]]>VANCOUVER, BC – MoonBeers, “the world’s first beer-based cryptocurrency,” has announced details of a new collaborative beer with 33 Acres Brewing that will be available to purchase exclusively with $BEERS.
$BEERS Galaxy Hazy IPA (6.6% abv) has the following notes:
Strap in and blast off with the first beer brewed for crypto. This IPA utilizes heavy-handed Galaxy additions in the kettle, and multiple dry-hoppings to bring you a full range of tropical flavours, white wine spritzers, and a resinous zip that lingers. Enjoyed best with friends, family or with an alien on the moon.
Only 72 cases of $BEERS Galaxy Hazy IPA have been produced for sale to customers who have $BEERS in their virtual wallet.
The new cryptocurrency is described as follows:
The MoonBeers ethos is to help bolster a struggling craft brewery economy, after the devastating effects Covid-19 restrictions had on the hospitality industry. MoonBeers gives 5% of all weekly transactions to help craft breweries get back on their feet, and an additional 2% is injected into the liquidity pool, which eventually settles transaction fees for new brewery sign-ups.
As an added incentive to get into $BEERS, beer buffs can passively earn deposits into their ‘beer budget’ just by holding. Plus, when customers buy a crypto-beer, 3% of every transaction goes back into their personal $BEERS supply – which means more beer!
$BEERS Galaxy Hazy IPA will be available soon at 33 Acres.

]]>TORONTO, ON & VICTORIA, BC – Two of Canada’s longest running craft breweries have announced the launch of a new partnership to “help grow one another’s portfolio of products in their respective markets.”
The collaboration between Toronto’s Steam Whistle Brewing and Victoria’s Phillips Brewing & Malting is described as follows:
The arrangement embodies the collaborative spirit that has long-defined craft beer, as each partner will use their local expertise and decades-old relationships to help the other build their business. There is no change in ownership to either partner, and they will each remain completely independent. This collaboration is a natural fit, as both brewers share the same values and have a history of quality, innovation, sustainability, and community.
In its initial phase, the deal will see the breweries representing and promoting each other’s brands in their respective markets:
In Steam Whistle’s home market of Ontario, the “Good Beer Folks” will represent Phillips’ top-selling Electric Unicorn White IPA, Tiger Shark Citra Pale Ale, Blue Buck Ale, and Glitterbomb Hazy Pale Ale. In BC and Alberta, Phillips will represent Steam Whistle’s 6-beer portfolio: Steam Whistle Pilsner, Pale Ale, Session Light Lager and Lemon Shandy, as well as Fat Tire Amber Ale and Voodoo Ranger IPA, brewed in Canada on behalf of American craft beer partner, New Belgium Brewing.
Alongside the other brewer’s sales force, each company will have boots on the ground in each market to support brand-related initiatives. Once the initial products and markets are established, the duo will focus efforts on other provinces and potentially a broader portfolio of products.

Farm League Brewing has been founded by four friends – Matt Boismier, Tyler Campbell, Mike Mayo, and Collin McKinnon – who all have past experience at other Ontario breweries. And the same can be said about the historic building where they’ve set up shop, a former knife factory that was the home to Grand River Brewing from 2007 until 2020, and the brewing equipment which was purchased from the Kitchener location of Abe Erb Brewing when the chain closed last year.
While the brewery is not quite ready to welcome guests, the first three Farm League beers will be available tomorrow and Friday (July 1st and 2nd) during a pop-up event at Old Galt Bottle Shop (135 George St. N. Unit 100, Cambridge).
The inaugural Farm League beers include…

Pilsner malt and flaked corn, not to be confused with corn flakes. The crispy crusher will go down smooth and fast. Golden, clear, and refreshing – it’s a perfect lager for cutting the grass, going to a baseball game, or sitting on the dock. Crack one, lean back and enjoy.
Leif American Farmhouse Ale (5.9% abv):

Following last week’s release of Coriolis Effect Berliner Weisse and Pineapple & Scotch Bonnet Kettle Sour, the third and fourth releases in the series are now available.
Salted Mango Kettle Sour (4% abv):
Salted Mango Kettle Sour brings a nice level of tartness that’s perfectly balanced by the tropical fruit sweetness of mango and the savouriness of salt. A salty finish adds an intriguing flavour and a rounded mouthfeel making this Coriolis Effect variant greater than the sum of its parts.
